From picking key sites to market research, demographic data is critical for determining which platforms deserve your energy.
Do you want to discover which apps are hot right now? Or are you concerned that a network is free-falling? Are you looking for new ways to integrate your content or want to know which venue is best for finding new customers? Well, thanks to some handy stats, we can answer those questions and more!
The following is a list of 2022 social media trends that you should be aware of, and how to best utilize this information for your business.
Despite recurring controversies, “adpocalypses,” and new competitors, Facebook remains the most popular social site among consumers and marketers, even if the data indicates that it won’t be for much longer. In fact, despite an increase in general social media usage over the last five years, time spent on Facebook has actually decreased, and its user growth rate has come to a screeching halt of only 0.8% in 2021.
Yet, ad sales continue to rise, and Facebook advertisements remain a mainstay of marketing. We believe that the platform will remain viable for your company if you’re trying to target a demographic between the ages of 25 and 44.
It’s safe to say that TikTok is no longer the future… it’s already here. The app’s popularity and growth are unprecedented, with a whopping 87.1% growth from 2019 to 2020, followed by a leading 18.3% from 2020 to 2021. Even better, the user base is using it: they spend nearly 90 minutes each day on the platform, far and away the most of any of the networks investigated. It’s also influential, with over 40% of Gen Z saying that products they see on TikTok have a direct influence on them. Businesses must pay attention.
Indeed, we recommend you create an account and get in on the action while it’s still going strong, but be aware that the demographics lean relatively young, with the majority of TikTok users being between the ages of 10 and 19. Obviously, this will not appeal to every company’s target demographic, but it can’t hurt to try while the market is so hot.
Along with Facebook, the 25-34 age group is dominated by Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and even LinkedIn. While these platforms have remained static or lost followers individually, they still have a stronghold on that audience.
So how do you differentiate between which platform to use? Instagram is quickly becoming an eCommerce hub, Twitter is viable for breaking news and trending topics, YouTube is great for informative and in-depth videos, and LinkedIn is still the place to go for professionals. Every platform has a niche, and if you don’t want to spread yourself thin by working on a variety of apps, you can focus on the ones that best suit your business’s target customers.
